I use it with my RASA and iOptron CEM40 mount. I can control everything with my phone and it works great! It has all the basics covered. Future software updates I would like are: (1) Region of Internet (ROI), (2) iPolar support, and (3) allow my laptop to control the main camera tunneled through the unit. Then I could run my own image capture and still use the wonderful plate solve and connectivity!
A brief review. I have been a user of ASI products for 2 years and the app is getting better and more stable with each release. The is a game-changer for the Astrophotography community truly making what is a complex failure prone challenging science-hobby into a iPad point and click with outstanding results. This is the future of AP, it’s good to see it progressing forward regularly. Keep up the good work ZWO!
I have been using the ASIair for several years and have been through many upgrades. Occasionally there are issues introduced but quickly remedied because the company is very responsive to its customers! The things I have been able to do with this system are simply amazing. Other solutions out there are complex for beginners and still complex once you are more advanced because of all the wires and laptops and such. The simple unit takes care of all of that!
Starting astrophotography as a hobby a little over two months ago I was a little concerned about how to control everything. Option 1 was buy a laptop and download more than a few apps with multiple screens. Option 2, ASIAIR with one pane of glass. Still so much to learn but this app has made it just that little bit easier for me to really get into the hobby. Definitely recommend it
The app and hardware are amazing and constantly improving. Ditch the wireless connection in favor of ethernet if you can. That will save you a lot of frustration. Though this is a great bit of kit one thing that it is missing is security. I put this on its own separate network because I don’t want it anywhere near mine. The default network password cannot be changed. Any curious person with a little time can access your air and fiddle with your setup. Possibly ruining your session or worse.
The ASI Air could be the best thing yet for simplified DSO imaging, but its buggy. I bought it because of rave reviews on the internet and videos of users using it on their Avalon mounts, like the M Zero, which I had just purchased. It promised to be a perfect solution for integrating the Avalon StarGO mount control system with SkySafari for GoTos, and the ASIAir for complete control of the mount and imaging. That has not worked out. My specific criticism is the long delay in responding to known issues, in my case the lack of support for Avalon StarGO mounts, despite having them listed as supported in the choice of supported platforms; both Avalon Legacy (which is basically Meade LX200) and Avalon StarGO are listed, but neither have full functionality if they work at all. I’ve been told repeatedly they are working on it, and even that a fix was imminent- over the past three months. Not my definition of ‘imminent’.
My zeq25 Mount was work fine till the lastest update with autofocus. Now the new 2nd update still does not fix the problem. Worst even my cem25 starts to have problem with auto guiding. Zwo please fix the issue.Even my Sky-Watcher eq6r pro is not guiding as good. I use to get 0.5 rms error with the earlier update. Now it goes up to 0.8. I am planning to get more asiair so please fix this issue. Problem is definitely not my Mount because when I use st4 the guiding still works fine. The only problem is I cannot select and slew using st4
This works as expected and gets better with each update. I use it with ASIAIR USB3 camera and USB3 camera, for tracking, and iOptron CEM 40 mount and 72mm refractor. The integration with SkySafari is excellent, and the plate solving is great as it rechecks location after a move. They have added more objects to the listing of Goto’s so its easy to use it to 3 star align your mount. This time of year it’s nice to set it up, and then stay indoors to view the images.
I have really enjoyed using this product but the bugs in the app is beyond annoying. For starters if I’m using my cell phone I have to turn off cellular service in order for the app to discover the ASIAIR network. It keep searching for the device on my mobile network if I leave it on. Second thing that’s beyond annoying. Because I’m using my cell phone I have to turn off my Wi-Fi to my home network in order to connect to the device also my cell service so I have no Internet connection on my cell phone. I have tried multiple times to connect it to my home network but it keeps saying that the password is not correct when I know for a fact it is. That’s not the most annoying part the device repeatedly tries to connect to my network over and over and keeps failing and kicks me out of the hotspot network to the device. I am forced to hard restart the device in order for it to connect to my phone again which again I have no Internet or cell service doing this. I spend most of my night fighting the bugs in the app instead of taking photos of the stars. Please fix this the most annoying bug. Even Youtubers have discussed that this is a problem
This device has been working very well for me. I have an ioptron cem26 mount and the asiair pro has been working very well with it for several months. I also added a WiFi repeater to my network and can control everything from inside the house. But since I live in North Central Florida, the weather out there at night has been perfect, so I like just staying outside! If the asiair plus is as advertised I would not hesitate to add it to my kit. The app has had no problems so far. Well made equipment.
ASIAIR is a smart WiFi controller. You can control the all ASI USB 3.0 cameras as well as Mini series cameras and selected DSLRs/MILCs, an equatorial mount to GoTo and Guiding, Focusing with ZWO EAF, capture with your phone or tablet when connected to ASIAIR WiFi. There is no VNC or remote desktop.
